Preserve our Community

Council meeting Monday April 18, 6:00 PM

We need to show up in force at 6:00 PM on April 18 at West Van Council to support an initiative to protect the trees in West Vancouver. There will be opposition in attendance (primarily developers) so let’s show council we love the trees, our community and not monster houses. I don’t know about you, but we love West Vancouver for the geography, the ocean and the trees. In the old days West Vancouver was known for an honest rational approach to architecture, where the site informed the design of a house and designers and builders used the trees to inform the design. That is why West Van is still so green and rugged. Today, housing lots are being decimated and flattened in favour of generic mega mansions and what makes West Vancouver so unique is quickly being destroyed. Let’s bring that spirit back and save the trees for generations to come.

The by-law will be proposed on April 18 at a Council meeting. We encourage you all to attend the meeting as we expect people who are opposed will be there and its important we keep the momentum going. If you can, sign up to speak if only to say you support this initiative. This will help balance the views of those who oppose.

There are two ways for people to support this:
1. If you are unable to be at the meeting you can write to mayor and council via e-mail (mayorandcouncil@westvancouver.caor hardcopy.
2. You can sign up to speak beforehand at the council chamber doors. You’ll have three minutes to speak. Doors open at 5:30. Meeting starts at 6:00. The tree bylaw is second on the agenda.
