School Safety Blitz – March 31st 2-3PM

Student safety is very important to us all. West Vancouver staff will be in front of  Eagle Harbour Montessori School between 2pm – 3pm Thursday March 31st to observe driver and pedestrian behaviour, and gather feedback from parents on making the school zone safer.

The good folks at the North Shore Safe Routes Asscoiation are putting this on. Follow them on North Shore SRA Twitter for the latest.

The safety blitz is to create school zone safety awareness. The West Vancouver Police, by-law, West Vancouver staff, ICBC and will be coming to talk to parents, students and drivers within the school zone about:

  • Benefits of active school travel
  • Following the rules of the road (driving & parking)
    • enforcement will issue warnings or tickets based on severity & attitude
  • Coffee, hot chocolate and healthy treats to kic off conversations with parents and children
  • A game for students to provide some road safety education – prizes will be healthy treats and stickers
  • We hope to start the dialog within the school community about local actions to improve the health and safety of students while en-route to school.
  • Will debrief after about possible infrastructure improvements (signs, crosswalks, traffic calming), locations to patrol for speed or parking infractions, and behaviours that may require communication or education by school administration.

Bring your concerns and ideas to school Thursday!
